Several Snake River Cleanup Opportunities Available for Volunteers

After being suspended during the COVID pandemic, several volunteer Snake River cleanup events are scheduled this month. Volunteers should sign up in advance and plan to wear sturdy shoes and work gloves. Wear clothing layers as weather conditions can change rapidly.

Hagerman Valley, April 15 — Idaho Fish and Game (IDFG), Magic Valley Region; Idaho Power; and Ducks Unlimited are coordinating this event Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to early afternoon.

The cleanup will focus on the Snake River from Buhl downstream to Hagerman, where volunteers will focus their efforts on access sites along the river, with some work being done along the shoreline from boats. Idaho Power will provide a light lunch to all volunteers following the clean-up, and Ducks Unlimited will be provide raffle prizes for volunteers.

Hells Canyon, April 22 — Volunteers will meet by 10 a.m. Mountain Time at the Oxbow School to pick up trash on riverbanks, roads and campsites.

Idaho Power will host a barbecue for volunteers at Copperfield Park after the cleanup. To sign up, contact Jared Farrens at jfarrens@idahopower.com or call 541-785-7270.

Swan Falls, April 22 — The IDFG is sponsoring this cleanup along one of the most popular and scenic spots along the middle Snake River.

Volunteers will be assigned a section of the Snake River for litter pickup when they arrive at 9 a.m. The project is expected to be finished by about 1 p.m.

Swan Falls Dam is located about 21 miles south of Kuna. It takes approximately 40 minutes to get there from the Meridian Road Exit on I-84. Sign up in advance at this link.
