A/C Cool Credit pays a bill credit for residential customers who allow Idaho Power to cycle (turn off and on) their central air conditioning (A/C) system on a few specific weekdays when summer demand for energy is high or for other system needs.
Your participation in A/C Cool Credit helps ensure reliable energy and the wise use of our natural resources, and you’ll earn a $5 a month credit on your summer energy bills.
Cycling only occurs on a few days each summer. Cycling generally takes place in late afternoon and evening. Cycling will not occur on weekends or holidays. Idaho Power reserves the right to cycle A/Cs for longer periods in the unlikely event of a system emergency.
The program is active June 15 to Sept. 15. Unless you decide to end your enrollment, you’ll be included in the program each summer, as long as you live at your current residence.
After your switch is installed on your A/C, a $5 credit will be added to your account on your July, August, September and October statements. Customers on Budget Pay will see the bill line item credit on these statements, but the monthly Budget Pay amount will not be reduced by the credit. The credit will apply to their Budget Pay calculation. Devices must be installed by the 15th of June, July, August or September to receive a credit on the following month’s statement.
You may quit the program at any time, but the credit will only apply to those full months you participated.
Residential A/C units used for a central air system or an air-source heat pump qualify. Water-source heat pumps, two-stage units, evaporative (swamp) coolers and window units are not eligible. Units must be in good working condition and have clear and easy access. Customers’ central A/C equipment must be fully functional and comply with the National Electric Code (NEC) standards.
Residential customers who live within Idaho Power’s service area, where the equipment required to support A/C cycling has been installed and is operational, and who use central A/Cs may apply. Renters may participate by having their landlord fill out an approval form, available by calling 1-866-865-COOL (2665).
