Boaters and other users of Oxbow Reservoir should be aware that the reservoir level will be lower than normal for the rest of the year and into the first quarter of 2026 during a construction project to repair portions of the Oxbow Dam spillway. This change will not impact flows below Hells Canyon Dam.
Construction activity related to the spillway repairs as well as installation of security fencing is continuing in the Oxbow Dam area, so travelers should expect additional traffic and use extra caution.
Located 13 miles downstream of Brownlee Dam, Oxbow was completed in 1961. It was the second dam of the Hells Canyon Project and can generate 190 megawatts of electricity, enough to power more than 145,000 homes.
