Important Labor Day Weekend Safety Reminders

As Labor Day weekend approaches, many of us are preparing to get outside for one of summer’s last great adventures. If you’re heading to one of the many recreation spots along the Snake River, Idaho Power has some reminders to help you and your fellow adventurers stay safe:

  • When boating or swimming in the water, wear a Coast Guard-approved life jacket. Idaho Power has numerous kiosks with various sizes of life jackets you can borrow. Just return them when you’re done.
  • Use caution in or near the water on Brownlee and Hells Canyon reservoirs; water-quality advisories for these reservoirs have been issued by the Idaho Department of Health & Welfare due to high levels of cyanobacteria toxins.
  • Stay away from dams — don’t cross or tie up to buoy lines, which are in place to keep boaters and swimmers at a safe distance.
  • Keep off the banks next to dams, and don’t climb over protective fences.
  • When driving, stay focused and watch out for utility crews that may be working along the road. We are still in the 100 Deadliest Days of Driving.

If you’re camping, Idaho Power also reminds customers that campfires are banned at their C.J. Strike and Woodhead parks due to high fire danger.
