University of Idaho Integrated Design Lab (IDL)

Idaho Power collaborates with the IDL to develop high performance energy-efficient buildings. Some of the services they offer include:

Energy Efficiency Technical Assistance

The IDL can provide varying levels of energy efficiency technical assistance and project-based training to building industry professionals and customers in Idaho Power’s service area. The goal is to identify new construction and major renovation projects to promote energy efficiency and integrated design. Additionally, energy efficiency design tools are available to provide design teams with information to support improved decision making in early design stages, including the daylight pattern guide, the climate responsive design web tool and more.

Energy Resource Library

Idaho Power customers have free access to the Integrated Design Lab’s Energy Resource Library. The library provides hundreds of free tools and guides to help experts and non-experts alike assess a building or systems’ energy performance, learn more about energy use patterns and identify opportunities for energy-saving improvements. Available tools and guides include flow meters, infrared cameras, data loggers, current transformers, ASHRAE design guides, a portable diagnostic toolkit (sensor suitcase) and more.

Building Simulation Users Group (BSUG)

BSUG is a free lecture series that brings together architecture and engineering professionals focused on building simulation. The users group draws upon the diverse expertise of its members and guest lectures to help support and improve the community’s energy efficiency related simulations skills. Each presentation is about an hour with lunch provided. Attendees receive one AIA CEU as well as a certificate to verify attendance.

Lunch and learns

Lunch and learns are regularly held for architecture and engineering firms that cover building design and construction best practices. Topics are focused on helping a firm integrate energy-saving practices into their projects and design process. Each presentation is about an hour with lunch provided. Attendees receive one AIA CEU as well as a certificate to verify attendance. Some classes also qualify for Health, Safety and Welfare credit.
