Transmission Lines are Needed to Balance Clean Energy

Idaho Power’s system operators work every minute of every day to ensure we produce the same amount of power as our customers use. Too much or too little power could let the lights go out or keep an electric motor from running correctly.

This balance is becoming more complex. Wind and solar energy are valuable, and they’re getting us closer to our goal of 100% clean energy by 2045. But they’re unpredictable. We don’t store their energy because large batteries are still too expensive.

We recently produced a video that explores the role of transmission projects like the Boardman to Hemingway (B2H) line in moving clean energy from its source to the people and businesses that need it.
