Stay Clear of Power Lines When Pruning Trees

Are you planning any yard work that involves pruning trees or planting them? If so, Idaho Power has several important safety reminders.

Never attempt to prune a tree near power lines. In fact, keep a distance of at least 10 feet from all power lines. If you have a tree near a power line that you think needs to be pruned or removed, or if you notice a tree interfering with power lines, contact Idaho Power online or by calling 208-388-2323 or 1-800-488-6151.

Idaho Power hires qualified line-clearing contractors to keep trees away from power lines, which are energized and can be fatal if touched. Even fallen branches touching a power line are dangerous.

If you’re considering planting a tree in your yard, make sure to plant the right tree in the right place. That means planting trees where they won’t grow to interfere with power lines, and where they can someday shade your home to provide energy efficiency benefits.
