Idaho Power is prepared for Monday’s solar eclipse.
The company does not anticipate a significant increase in electrical demand from the influx of tourists coming to see the event; there may be a small increase over what we would normally expect from the homes and hotels where visitors will be staying.
The eclipse will cause a brief interruption in generation from the independent solar-energy power producers tied to Idaho Power’s electrical grid. Because the time and duration of the eclipse are known, Idaho Power is able to plan ahead and have adequate additional resources to immediately compensate for the brief loss of solar energy.
Idaho Power has nearly 300 megawatts of solar capacity on its system.
Additionally, the company has taken steps to prepare for potential impacts to our operations, including excessive traffic.
