A Reminder from Idaho Power: Plan Before You Dig

April is National Safe Digging Month, and Idaho Power would like to remind customers to stay focused on safety as they are out working on projects or planting trees in the yard this spring. Doing so will help prevent safety hazards, power outages and costly repairs.

  • Call Dig Line at 811 a few days before digging to avoid hitting underground utility lines, such as water, electricity and natural gas.
  • Be prepared to give the location, scheduled date, type of work and information about the company or contractor doing the work (if it’s not you).
  • The 811 operator will notify affected utilities, and a locator will visit the dig site to mark the approximate location of underground utility lines with flags or paint.

For those planting trees, keep overhead lines in mind too. Plan for tree growth, and plant the right tree in the right place. When tree branches touch power lines, they can cause outages and create safety concerns.
