Net Metering Filing, July 27, 2017
On July 27, Idaho Power filed a request with the Idaho Public Utilities Commission (“Commission”) related to customer on-site generation, also known as net metering. There are no pricing changes requested in this filing, and the proposal, if approved as submitted, will not have an immediate impact on existing customers with on-site generation.
The filing requests the creation of two new customer classes for new residential and small general service on-site generation installations, and closing of the existing net metering schedule to new residential and small general service customers that connect on-site generation.
It also asks the Commissioners to open a generic docket once this case is concluded, to establish a compensation structure for customer-owned distributed energy resources that reflects both the benefits and costs that interconnection of those resources brings to the electric system.
The Company originally requested an effective date of January 1, 2018; however, when the Commission established a schedule for the case, the January 1, 2018 effective date was suspended. A ruling in the case is now expected from the Commission in spring 2018, likely around April 1, 2018. If the new schedules are approved, the effective date will be determined by the Commission as part of its ruling in the case.
