Spring Electrical Safety Tips from Idaho Power

As you prepare for more outdoor activities this spring, Idaho Power is sharing with customers the following ways to stay safe around electricity.

  • Before plugging into outdoor cords, inspect the cords to ensure there is no damage or fraying caused by winter weather.
  • If planning any yard work that requires digging, call 811 at least two business days before to mark any underground utility lines to avoid.
  • Be aware of overhead power lines and other electrical equipment. Ensure you stay at least 10 feet away from overhead lines — and never attempt to prune a tree near power lines. Power lines are energized and dangerous, and only qualified line-clearing contractors should prune trees near them. If you have a tree near a power line that you think needs to be pruned or removed, or if you notice a tree interfering with power lines, contact Idaho Power online.
  • Ensure sprinklers don’t spray power lines.
  • Talk to your kids about keeping kites, drones, and other items far away from power lines.

Idaho Power has produced this short YouTube video demonstrating these safety tips and more.
