What Is Budget Pay?
Small General Service (Rate 07) customers, if eligible, can use Budget Pay to more easily and conveniently budget for electricity costs by eliminating some of the highs and lows in your monthly bills.
With Budget Pay your electricity charges are spread out evenly over a 12-month period. The Budget Pay amount is based on the average of your most recent 12 monthly billings.
Once you request Budget Pay, your next bill will display you have enrolled. Your meter will still be read monthly and your account is still billed for your actual energy costs, but you will be asked to pay only your Budget Pay amount. The Budget Pay amount normally remains the same for the 12 months after you have enrolled.
This payment program is available to residential and small commercial customers that have received service at the same location for a minimum of nine months and do not have an overdue balance. It may be best to wait on enrolling in Budget Pay if you anticipate any major changes in:
- Number of people living in the home
These changes can drastically change the electrical use in the home.
Changes to Your Budget Pay Amount
The Budget Pay amount is reviewed annually comparing it to your actual usage. Any difference will be factored into the next 12-month Budget Pay amount. The Budget Pay amount is also monitored year-round and sometimes may be changed if appropriate. These changes are only to ensure you’re paying an average of what you owe throughout the year, and that a large account balance or credit isn’t building up.
Canceling or Transferring Budget Pay
When Budget Pay is canceled, you must pay the full account balance or set up a payment arrangement. The amount you need to pay will be in the “Please Pay” box on the next bill you receive after the plan is canceled. If you have a credit account balance, the credit can be applied to future bills or refunded.
If you move and transfer your service, it will discontinue Budget Pay and the full account balance becomes due on the next bill. Any credit balance can be applied to future bills or refunded.
Budget Pay and Auto Pay
We recommend using both Budget Pay and Auto Pay for maximum convenience. Remember, however, that your Budget Pay amount may change between annual reviews, so it’s important check your statements and usage.
