Solar Integration Study

Electric power from solar generation facilities poses challenges to the reliable operation of a vertically integrated power system similar to those posed by wind power.

Like wind, solar photovoltaic resources exhibit greater variability and uncertainty than energy from conventional generators. This variability requires an electric utility integrating solar to modify the operation of dispatchable generating resources.

Idaho Power conducted a solar integration study (PDF) to determine the costs of the operational modifications necessary to integrate solar photovoltaic plant generation.

The Solar Integration Study was filed with the Idaho Public Utilities Commission (IPUC) on June 17, 2014. The study was completed with the guidance of a technical review committee made up of experts from outside the company, as well as observers from the IPUC and Public Utility Commission of Oregon.
