American Falls Dam and Reservoir are owned and operated by the Bureau of Reclamation. However, the dam's hydroelectric facilities are owned and operated by Idaho Power.
American Falls is the site of historic Trenner Park, Idaho Powers first public recreation area. Built in 1933, the park is located at the site of the old power house and provides picnic tables and
access to fishing.
We also maintain American Falls Park, a day-use area near the power plant, complete with picnic tables, a playground and restrooms.
The American Falls Reservoir is the second largest in Idaho and affords opportunities for sailing, water skiing, sail-boarding, swimming, boating and fishing. Since1981, Idaho Power annually stocks the reservoir with 8,000 lbs of rainbow trout to improve its trout fishery.
A boat ramp downstream of the dam and power plant provides access to the Snake River and fishing.
The American Falls area is an excellent place for viewing geese and ducks, especially during their annual migration, and is a popular wintering ground for white pelicans. Bald eagles winter here and may be seen perched on treetops or power poles along the river. For driving directions, click here.
