Idaho Power Delays Closure Of Cottonwood Park

Idaho Power delays closing Cottonwood Park on Aug. 1 as previously scheduled to allow for a cultural review of the site prior to construction.

“We plan to complete this review shortly, and until we are finished with it, the park remains open for visitors,” said Idaho Power Recreation Planner Fred Noland. “The review ensures that construction work we do at Cottonwood will not impact any cultural resources that might be on the site.”

Noland said the goal of the project is to ensure visitors will be able to take advantage of the many recreational opportunities afforded by Strike Reservoir.

Work includes building a rock jetty near the launching area to provide boats leaving or entering the marina area with some protection from wind-driven waves.

Overall, Idaho Power will spend more than $400,000 dollars on improvements to Cottonwood Park, including widening the boat ramp and improving the marina area.

The improvements are a condition of the company’s federal license to operate the C.J. Strike hydroelectric project.

Those with questions about this project may contact Noland at 208-388-6492 or by e-mail at fnoland@idahopower.com.

Idaho Power also has a link on its Web site to all C.J. Strike construction activities. From www.idahopower.com, go to “Rivers and Recreation” and then select “C.J. Strike” from the left hand menu.

Strike Reservoir is approximately 35 miles south of Mountain Home, Idaho on the Snake River. C. J. Strike is one of 17 hydroelectric projects operated by Idaho Power.
