May 5, 2008Energy Efficiency Earns Incentive for WinCo FoodsWinCo Foods has qualified for an incentive of more than $115,000 through Idaho Power’s Custom Efficiency program for energy efficiency upgrades at its store located at 8200 Fairview Ave. in Boise. Energy efficiency measures at the WinCo store represent an annual savings of almost 960,000 kilowatt-hours. The scope of this project was to upgrade the lighting in the store to more efficient T8 fluorescent technology. In addition, motion sensors were installed where appropriate, and LED exit signs replaced incandescent signs. “Idaho Power congratulates WinCo for its commitment to energy efficiency,” said Blake Watson, Idaho Power program specialist. “Because this store runs 24/7, we expect these retrofits to yield a significant reduction in their monthly electric bill, as well as help reduce the demand on the electric system.” This Custom Efficiency program is funded through the Conservation Program Funding Charge that is assessed monthly to all Idaho Power customers to develop and operate energy conservation programs to reduce the demand for electricity within the company’s service area. WinCo Foods is an employee owned company operating 62 large discount supermarkets and three distribution centers in five western states (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California and Nevada) and employing approximately 11,000 individuals. The company has recently announced construction of a new 750,000 square foot distribution center in southeast Boise, which will create approximately 200 new job opportunities in the Boise valley.
