Project Need
Growth in the Adrian, Ore., area has resulted in increased loading of the Nyssa power source currently serving that area. The distance between Nyssa and Adrian also has affected the voltage on that line, making it more difficult to maintain high levels of power quality and reliability.
In order to continue to provide reliable electric service to Adrian area customers and to meet existing and future electrical capacity needs, Idaho Power plans to build a new substation in 2007. This substation will be designed and located to best meet customers’ needs for reliable power in Adrian and surrounding areas.
Conditional Use
A Conditional Use permit is required for this substation. Pending approval, construction will begin in the spring of 2007.
Substation Details
The proposed Adrian Substation site is on the southeast corner of Owyhee Avenue and Jefferson Drive, approximately two miles west of Owyhee Corner at Oregon 201. This substation will be served from an existing 69,000 volt (69-kV) sub-transmission line that currently runs alongside the substation property. The substation site will be approximately one acre.
The substation’s purpose is to transform electricity from 69-kV to 12.5-kV, and initially will be designed to serve two, 12.5-kV distribution circuits that transport electricity from the substation to homes, farms, and businesses in the area. As growth continues in the Adrian and Owyhee Corner areas, an additional 12.5-kV distribution circuit may be required. Click for a printable map (PDF, 391KB).
Sub-Transmission Line Details
The existing 69-kV sub-transmission line serving the Adrian Substation is currently owned by the Bureau of Reclamation. Through an agreement with the bureau, Idaho Power will draw electricity off the line and does not anticipate needing another sub-transmission line in the future for this substation.
