Electricity is energy converted from natural resources or fuels, produced in different types of power plants.  It's then distributed safely along our power lines to homes or businesses.

Electricity is created by a spinning magnet inside a coil of wire.  This is called a generator.  The generator is connected to a turbine.  We use different natural resources to turn our turbines: falling water through hydroelectric generation, coal or natural gas.

The How We Make Electricity (PDF, 560KB) brochure and the glossary section in our Energy Planner brochure (English or Espaņol, PDF, 1.5M) provides even more details.
