Idaho Power’s A/C Cool Credit Program has been designed to help reduce the demand for electricity when it’s most needed.

How? The greatest demand for electricity in our area occurs during hot summer afternoons. Air conditioners are running full blast while farmers are pumping water to their fields. The result is an ever-growing need for power at very specific times, what we call “peak” times.

Reducing air conditioning loads during these peak times is one alternative for meeting our unique power needs. By partnering with residential customers with central air conditioning living within Idaho Power's service area, the company can reduce peak electricity use while still ensuring the comfort of our customers.

A remote-controlled switch is installed on or near participating customers’ air conditioners. On selected summer weekdays usually between 2 and 8 p.m., Idaho Power may activate the switch, cycling the air conditioner off and on in 15- to 20-minute intervals over a two- to four-hour period. Participating customers receive a $7 credit on their summer Idaho Power bills.
