Amity Substation

Project Need

Southwest Ada County continues to see steady residential development and Idaho Power is working hard to keep up! In order to serve the growing electrical needs of the community, we anticipate that a new distribution substation will be required in the area of Ten Mile and Amity roads by May 2014. If growth increases beyond projections, this substation may be needed even sooner.

Idaho Power would like to establish a distribution substation site well in advance of construction. This makes the public aware of the location and positions us to best serve the power requirements of the area.

So far, Idaho Power has obtained a conditional use permit and purchased the land.

Substation Details

The proposed Amity Substation is located on Amity Road, about 300 yards west of Ten Mile Road. View a printable map .

The substation will occupy less than 200 feet of road frontage and will set 100 feet back from the existing road right-of-way. A seven-foot tall, slatted chain link fence and landscaping will surround the substation.

The distribution substation will transform electricity from 138,000 volts to 12,500 volts (138 kV to 12.5 kV), and will initially be constructed to provide three 12.5-kV distribution circuits to bring electricity from the distribution substation to homes in the area. As the area continues to grow, up to five additional 12.5-kV distribution circuits could be provided by this station. The source of power for this substation will be a 138-kV sub-transmission line. The line route has not yet been determined, but it will likely come from the west, along Amity Road.

Idaho Power has posted signs at the site announcing the future construction of the substation. Until then the two-acre site will be leased back to the previous owner as pasture.
