Meter Exchange Project
Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Also Known As Smart Metering
Idaho Power customers in Oregon and Idaho are receiving new, technically advanced, electric meters—also known as smart meters. Smart meters enable the company to read meters remotely, resulting in operational efficiency, environmental benefits, and enhanced customer service, billing and power restoration. The new smart meters are digital, secure and easier to read.
Current meters are being exchanged with smart meters throughout the company's 24,000-square-mile area between 2009 and 2011. The meter exchange schedule begins in the Treasure Valley and concludes in southeast Idaho. Meter technicians from TruCheck, hired by Idaho Power, are installing the new meters.
Customers in Emmett and McCall, however, received their new meters during the Phase I project in 2004. Their meters will not be replaced again.
After installment, customers with new smart meters can find information about energy usage and possibly lowering costs by logging in as an Account Manager.
Once you receive your new meter, learn how it works to measure your energy usage and potentially save money!
Idaho Power's new smart meters empower customers to monitor and manage their energy usage. They provide you with access to detailed energy usage information that enables you to make changes for wise energy use, potentially resulting in lower bills.
This short video, "How To Read Your New Smart Meter," is designed to help you understand how your kilowatt-hour (kWh) electricity usage is determined and to show you how to read your new smart meter. We've also provided some basics about how the meter works and how to calculate your kilowatt-hour usage. View the companion worksheet . If your meter hasn't been changed out yet, use this electric meter worksheet .
