C.J. Strike Construction Update

Recreation facility construction is a federal requirement included in our new license to operate C.J. Strike Power Plant. Idaho Power received its new license in August 2004. Construction started in 2008 and will continue through 2009.

We will strive to keep as much of each facility open as possible, however, some closures will be necessary to complete construction and for safety. Thank you for your patience during these enhancements.

Updates - C.J. Strike Recreation Facility Construction 2008-2009

Listed below is the most current information about the areas affected by construction. Click the name of the park to open a PDF with a map showing what the park will look like after construction.

  • North Park
IMPORTANT: Intermittent closures of the boat launch begin April 20 and will continue through the first week of June due to placement of new piers, dredging around the dock area, and earth work for the new restroom. Alternate boat launches are available at Black Sands and Cottonwood Park. Steel piles necessary for the placement of new concrete boarding piers currently limit the amount of loading and mooring space at the boat launch. In addition, traffic flow to the boat ramp will be rerouted and will no longer pass through the RV area. As always, please be mindful of working equipment and park vehicles clear of machinery.

  • Scout Park
  • Construction activity continues as crews work on new irrigation and campsite layout. Access will be limited and will occur intermittently through summer. Please stay clear of equipment and watch for some areas which may be off limits. It is possible that you may be asked to move if you are camping.

  • Locust Park
A new vault toilet and concrete curbing are installed. Camping is available and no access limitations are expected.

  • Cottonwood Park
The boat ramp is open for launching. The marina next to the ramp is open for fishing and boat mooring. New piers will be placed in the next month and some launching interruptions should be expected at that time. The camping areas are not yet complete, but most are available for use. Be aware that you may be asked to move if you are camping. Please be mindful of markers (stakes and construction boundaries).

  • Loveridge Bridge
Both north and south side launches are now open. New piers will be placed in the next month and some launching delays should be expected at that time. In the event of a closure, one launch will always be available for use. The new vault toilet on the north side will not be installed until fall. There will be some construction activity that will restrict access in the late summer or early fall.

Additional Improvements to C.J. Strike

In relation to specific recreation site improvements, Idaho Power is also required to do the following:

  • Promote public safety and increase awareness of recreational opportunities using a series of interpretive, informative and educational kiosks and panels at its developed recreational sites.
  • Provide safe and reasonable access to recreational areas for all visitors.
  • Reduce the incompatibilities between recreational use and recreational resources.
  • Provide future developments to help meet the increasing demand for land- and water-based recreation.

Idaho Power is also working on the following within the C.J. Strike area:

  • Rainbow Trout stocking
  • White Sturgeon Monitoring
  • Wildlife Habitat Enhancements and Noxious Weed Control
