American Falls

American Falls is the site of historic Trenner Park, Idaho Power's first public recreation area. Built in 1933, the park is located at the site of the old power house.

Park Facilities

The American Falls Reservoir is the second largest in Idaho and offers recreational activities including:

  • Sailing
  • Water skiing
  • Sail-boarding
  • Swimming
  • Boating
  • Fishing

Idaho Power is committed to a healthy environment. To help achieve this goal, we stock the reservoir with 8,000 pounds of rainbow trout each year. Stocking the reservoir each year since 1981 helps improve the reservoir’s trout fishery.

The American Falls area is an excellent place for viewing geese and ducks,

especially during their annual migration. The area is also a popular wintering ground for white pelicans. During winter, bald eagles may be seen perched on treetops or power poles along the river.

The Bureau of Reclamation owns and operates the American Falls Dam and Reservoir. Idaho Power owns and operates the dam's hydroelectric facilities.

American Falls Park

Idaho Power also maintains American Falls Park, a day-use area near the power plant. The day-use area includes:

  • Picnic tables
  • A playground
  • Handicapped accessible restrooms
  • A boat ramp downstream of the dam and power plant

For boat ramp elevations, visit the Idaho Department of Reclamation - Pacific Northwest Region Web site. Click "Boat Ramp Elevations," "Upper Snake River" and then "American Falls."

Visit the Idaho Power Parks and Recreation section for information about our other parks and recreational facilities.
