Fish Tag Information

fish with one jaw tag

Jaw tagged rainbow trout have been stocked in the Snake River between Shoshone Falls and C.J. Strike Dam. Idaho Power annually stocks these waters with rainbow trout as a means of improving sport fishing. View the Rainbow Trout Stocking Location and Fishing Access Map .

Many of these catchable-sized stocked fish have been fitted with either one or two metal jaw tags. The information obtained from anglers catching these tagged fish helps Idaho Power researchers determine the success of this fish stocking program. This program is part of an overall fish stocking effort required by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) as part of the relicensing of the company's hydroelectric projects along the Snake River.

Should you catch a trout fitted with a single jaw tag, please record the following information:

  • The number on the tag
  • The date you caught the fish
  • The location where you caught the trout (for example, approximately one mile above C.J. Strike Dam)
  • Whether or not you released it or harvested it

Call 1-800-388-6011, toll-free, and provide this information along with your name, mailing address and telephone number. All anglers who provide this information will be entered in a drawing for $1,000 to be awarded annually in February and September.
