Hells Canyon Dam Road to Re-open Thursday

Crews are finishing up maintenance work that has restricted travel over Hells Canyon Dam. The road will re-open on Thursday, but flaggers will be on hand to control traffic while workers remove equipment.

Idaho Power crews have been working on the switchyard below Hells Canyon Dam since October. The presence of a large crane on the dam limited vehicle travel while work was being done.

The primary purpose of the work has been to replace large air breaks that have been in use since the dam began generating electricity in 1967. A number of other improvements have been made as well, including the installation of high-output, energy-efficient LED light fixtures. Visitors to the area at night are sure to notice the difference.
