CFL bulbs provide the following benefits:

  • Save Energy and Money

Energy Star bulbs use 75 percent less energy than incandescent bulbs. For greatest savings, place CFLs in light fixtures you use most.
  • Last Longer

ENERGY STAR bulbs last up to 10 times longer than incandescent light bulbs.
That means fewer bulb purchases and fewer bulb replacements, great for hard to reach places.
  • Preserve Natural Resources

Using energy efficient lighting in your home helps preserve energy resources and our environment.

The Green Home Lighting Guide (PDF) developed by the Lighting Design Lab and others, explains lighting terminology and teaches efficient lighting techniques for your home.

Proper Disposal of CFL Bulbs

CFLs contain a small amount of mercury. Idaho Power encourages safe handling and proper disposal of fluorescent bulbs. Please contact your local landfill or solid waste collection company for information on household hazardous waste collection programs or special handling requirements. Learn more at http://epa.gov/cfl/.
