Thank you for your interest in the Boise City Home Audit Project. The available openings for this limited project are full.

If you’re looking for ways to save on your energy bills, the Boise Home Audit project can help! There’s never been a better time to invest in the energy efficiency of your home. Act now to take advantage of this special offer.

For just $49, selected homeowners are eligible to receive a professional home energy audit and a variety of energy efficiency improvements installed in their home. The audit and improvements are worth more than $400.

What Is An Energy Audit?

An energy audit is a comprehensive in-home energy evaluation conducted by a certified, third-party Home Performance Specialist (HPS). It can identify the reasons why your home uses a lot of energy or isn’t as comfortable as it could be.

In addition to the energy evaluation, you may elect to have energy saving improvements installed at no additional cost. Available improvements include:

  • Sealing air leaks around the furnace unit
  • Installation of up to 20 Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs)
  • Insulating exposed hot water pipe between the water heater and wall
  • Installing low-flow showerhead

How The Boise Home Audit Project Works

To qualify for this project, you must:

  • Live within Boise City limits and be an Idaho Power residential customer
  • Have owned and occupied a single family, site-built home of 3,000-square-feet or less for at least the last 12 months
  • Plan to live in the home for at least the next 12 months

Enrollments are accepted on a first come, first serve basis. This offer is open to the first 600 qualified applicants.

Once your application is received and accepted, your information will be forwarded to trained and certified professional home energy auditors who have been selected to perform the audits. They will contact you directly to make an appointment to complete the home audit and install energy saving improvements.

Your $49 payment is due at the time of the audit. A two-person crew will conduct the audit over the course of 3-4 hours. It is necessary for an adult of at least 18 years old be present in the home during this time.

Once the audit is complete, the auditor will spend a few minutes reviewing the results with you and suggest near term and long term actions that can be taken to improve your home’s energy efficiency. A printed audit report will be sent within a few weeks that will include specific recommendations for your home.

Make Your Home Comfortable And Efficient Year-Round

The audit is only the first step to identifying larger efficiency needs. Take action on the recommendations and you could significantly increase your savings and the comfort of your home.

From the measures installed during the audit, the average home would save up to 5-10 percent on their energy use. This equates to a savings of approximately 600 kWh a year. The average monthly usage for a typical residential customer is 1,050 kWh per month.

In addition to identifying areas that use the most energy, the auditor will offer suggestions on the most cost-effective ways to save and provide information on programs to assist with improvement costs, such as tax incentives and financing.
