General information
1. What is Demand Response?
Demand response is a customer’s short-term reduction of electricity use in response to utility peak demand or other system needs.
2. Why should I participate?
- Revenue to your bottom line. The FlexPeak Management program is a simple and smart way to put money back into your business with zero up front costs.
- Take control of your energy use. Get access to PowerTrak®, EnerNOC’s easy-to-use Web-based software that provides you with the real-time energy information you need to better manage your energy use.
- Get leaner—and greener. The FlexPeak Management program helps your facility become more energy efficient while providing a cost effective solution to delay the need to build new generation facilities.
- Give back to your community. Your support increases the efficiency of the electric grid and reduces the need for future electricity generation.
3. Who is EnerNOC?
EnerNOC, Inc. is a leading developer and provider of clean and intelligent energy solutions to commercial, institutional, and industrial customers, as well as electric power grid operators and utilities. EnerNOC's technology-enabled demand response and energy management solutions help optimize the balance of electric supply and demand.
The company uses its Network Operations Center, or NOC, to remotely manage and reduce electricity consumption across a network of commercial, institutional, and industrial customer sites and make demand response capacity and energy available to grid operators and utilities on demand. For more information visit www.enernoc.com.
Eligibility
1. Will my facility be eligible?
The program is available to larger commercial and industrial facilities with the ability to reduce their electricity use during Idaho Power system peak times. To determine if your facility is a candidate, contact an EnerNOC representative by calling (866) 366-7820 or visit www.enernoc.com/get-started.
2. Where is the program available?
Idaho Power service area (Idaho only).
Participation Process
1. How do I participate?
Participating in FlexPeak Management is simple. EnerNOC will:
- Work with you to identify your reduction potential and strategy for participation.
- Outline reduction measures in a detailed Demand Response Plan.
- Install a server at your facility to establish communication with their Network Operations Center (NOC), so they can monitor your energy consumption levels in real-time, 24/7.
- Simulate a demand response event to ensure that you are comfortable with the procedures outlined in your Demand Response Plan.
- Officially enroll your facility in the FlexPeak Management program. The amount you commit to reduce can be adjusted as your electric loads change and as you gain experience in the program.
2. What types of reductions can I make?
Energy reductions can be made across a broad range of equipment. Common examples include:
- Lighting
- Manufacturing processes
- HVAC equipment
- Battery chargers
- Pumps
- Industrial freezers
Customers find that many energy intensive processes can simply be shifted by a few hours to facilitate event participation. You can choose to initiate reductions on your own, or request that EnerNOC executes your plan automatically from their Network Operations Center.
EnerNOC has extensive experience creating reduction strategies that work within the operational limitations of a wide variety of unique facilities, including food processing and storage, manufacturers, universities, office buildings, municipalities and more—ask EnerNOC about their experience working with customers like you.
3. What happens during an event?
Notification
When Idaho Power anticipates the need for capacity, it dispatches the EnerNOC demand response network into action. Once an event is called, EnerNOC will send you a notification via e-mail, phone, or pager informing you when the demand response event will begin.
Response
At the start of the event, your facility will reduce its electricity usage according to your pre-determined Demand Response Plan.
Support
Before, during, and after an event, EnerNOC’s Network Operations Center (NOC) remains in communication with your facility. NOC personnel are available 24/7/365, supporting you to ensure that you achieve high levels of performance and payments.
4. Are there penalties if my facility underperforms or opts out of an event?
No. EnerNOC assumes all risk of nonperformance. If your facility underperforms your payment for the month may be reduced, but you will never have to pay a penalty.
